Cannot update to 1.1.6-beta

Hi, I get an error every time I try to update from 1.1.5-49-G0C3208 to 1.1.6-beta. It tells me there is an error and asks if I would like to try downloading manually. When I click download manually, nothing happens. Also, the bugs I reported many months ago regarding inconsistent update checking have still not been fixed (and are not present in Findings or Papers, which I believe use the same update mechanism).

@olibclarke we indeed use a slightly different version of the update system due to the download size (the updates are applied by downloading deltas only). Here's a direct download link to the beta version meanwhile this gets fixed: http://updates.manuscriptsapp.com/apps/manuscripts/alpha/download – the issue is in a part of our server side system which supports the update checking system by supplying those deltas, and I believe to have it resolved later today. The issue with the download button should also be resolved there. The automated update check intervals are also slightly different (more frequent) in Manuscripts than for instance in Papers or Findings and the update system doesn't for that reason always allow for manual update checking (hence the "Check for Updates" option can be disabled when you would not expect it to). The reason we have had some trouble with this is that the delta based update workflow (which improves the experience dramatically for large app downloads) is not really much supported by the Sparkle project (the open source update checking system we use) and we have had to contribute quite a lot of bits and pieces to make update supplying work smoothly. I believe this beta channel specific problem is now the last remaining issue we are aware of with it, we'll also be open sourcing this component for other app vendors soon now that it is beginning to finally be in a shape.
